The Dashboard is the home screen for every Technician. It shows today's open work for the current Facility and is designed to take seconds to complete a routine check from a phone, tablet, or shared kiosk.
What you see on the Dashboard
When you sign in (or switch Facilities), the Dashboard renders three groups:
- Today's Daily tasks — every Daily task that has not been completed yet.
- Open Weekly and Monthly tasks — tasks that are due this week or month.
- Open work orders assigned to me — one-off jobs and reactive maintenance.
Each row shows the task name, the SOP link if one exists, the assigned tech (if any), and a green Complete button.
Log a daily task in three steps
- Click the task name to expand the row. The detail view shows the task's purpose, any safety notes, the linked SOP, and previous entries.
- Fill in the inputs the task asks for:
- Reading (number) — for meter reads, pressure checks, chlorine levels.
- Pass / Fail — for inspections.
- Notes (text) — anything the next shift needs to know.
- Photo — see Adding photos and notes to a task.
- Click Complete. MaintIQ stamps the entry with your name, the Facility's local timestamp, and a unique entry ID.
The task disappears from "today's open work" and appears in History, where it is searchable by name, date, tech, or Facility.
Saving partial work
If you have to walk away before you finish:
- Hit Save draft instead of Complete. Drafts are private to you and persist across sign-outs.
- Drafts auto-expire at midnight (or at the cadence's rollover) so stale drafts don't pile up.
Required vs optional fields
A task author can mark any field required. Required fields are flagged with a red asterisk, and the Complete button stays disabled until they are filled. Optional fields are accepted blank — but a strong best practice is to capture readings even when "everything looked normal," because Insights uses those values for trend lines.
What happens after you complete a task
- The entry is immutable for Technicians. To fix a typo, ask an Admin (Admins can edit within 24 hours).
- Photos are stored in encrypted object storage and linked to the entry.
- The completion fires any subscribed Insights widgets (completion rate, on-time %, missed-task count).
- If the task is linked to a workflow (for example, "If pressure > 80 PSI, auto-open a work order"), MaintIQ creates the follow-up record automatically.
Tips for fast logging in the field
- Bookmark the Dashboard URL on your phone's home screen. It is mobile-first and works offline for read-only browsing.
- Use the camera button before opening the task — photos attach to the task you open next.
- Train your team to write notes in plain language. "Pressure stable, no leaks" is gold for the next shift; "OK" is not.
FAQ
Can I complete a task for someone else? Admins can mark a task complete on behalf of a tech (and the entry records both the actor and the assignee). Technicians can only complete their own.
What if a Daily task is not relevant today (e.g. equipment is down for repair)? Click Skip with reason. The task is removed from today's overdue list, the reason is logged in History, and it does not count against completion rate.
Can I log a task in the past? Admins can backfill within 24 hours. Beyond that window, the entry must be tagged as a manual correction so audits stay clean.
