Using MaintIQ on mobile vs desktop: when to use each

Updated May 18, 2026

MaintIQ is a responsive web app — there is no separate native app to download. Every screen works on every device, but some workflows feel dramatically better on a phone, and others demand a real keyboard. This guide gives you a clear rule of thumb.

Use your phone for

  • Completing daily duties on the floor. The task list is touch-optimised, and the camera button uploads a verification photo in one tap.
  • Logging readings. Numeric keypads pop up automatically; thresholds turn red if a value is out of range.
  • Quick work orders. Reactive issues should be opened the moment you see them — not after you walk back to the office.
  • Reading the next task. Add MaintIQ to your home screen (Safari → Share → Add to Home Screen; Chrome → ⋮ → Add to Home screen) and it behaves like a native app.

Use a tablet for

  • Round sheets and walk-throughs. A 10-inch screen comfortably shows a checklist plus the SOP side-by-side.
  • Shift handover. Two technicians can read the Notepad and history feed together without huddling over a phone.
  • Photo-heavy work orders. Annotating images is easier with more screen real estate.

Use a desktop or laptop for

  • Writing or editing SOPs. Markdown editing, copy-paste from .docx, and the AI assistant all benefit from a real keyboard.
  • Configuring cadences in Admin. Cadence rules involve multi-select dropdowns and date pickers that are fiddly on a phone.
  • Running Insights reports. Charts render at full resolution and CSV exports download to your Downloads folder.
  • Managing roles and permissions. Admins assigning users to facilities will move faster with a mouse.

Offline behaviour

MaintIQ requires a network connection to sync. When a phone loses signal:

  • The last-loaded dashboard stays visible.
  • Completions are queued locally and sync automatically when signal returns.
  • A small amber banner appears at the top of the screen while offline.

Avoid relying on offline mode for safety-critical readings — sync confirmation is your proof the value was recorded.
